Ramu Nickel Mine

Our main supply of timber will come from the salvage operation involving the Ramu Nickel Mine.  Papua New Guinea and China recently came to an agreement to develop the Ramu Nickel Mine in the Madang Province.  All of the timber located on the mining area has to be removed to make way for the operations.  There is no other way to develop this mine so no issues to save this part of the forest are pending. It is approximately a 15 square mile area which contains over 100 million board feet of lumber including Wau Beech, Taun, Pencil Cedar, Water Gum, Red Cedar, Red Walnut, PNG Boxwood, Quandong, and many others.  In exchange for the timber rights to this area, we have made agreements with the land owners and local government to invest the millions of dollars necessary for the salvage operation to put the lumber to the highest and best use possible, create employment opportunities for local PNG people, and clear the area in an efficient manner to keep the operations on schedule.

Continuing Forestry Projects

In addition to the clear-cut salvage operation of the mining area, various select-cut operations are scheduled over the next 25 years. In cooperation with the Papua New Guinea Forest Authority we will be involved in an Environmentally Clean/Environmentally Green operation, taking only timber approved and marked by the National Forest Service.  Select-cut operations offer a unique challenge with the terrain of PNG. We look forward to overcoming these barriers to be able keep our presence in PNG and continue to have a positive affect on the local economy and establish lasting relationships with the people of this country.
